About Garry Ebrey
I work as both a hypnotherapist and a counsellor in Maidstone. Specialist Hypnotherapy and my counselling practice, Specialist Counselling, share the same calm setting at Barham Court and Buckland Hill.
Some people work only with hypnotherapy. Some work only with counselling. Others use a combination at different stages. The aim stays the same. Clear goals, safe work and useful change in everyday life.
Training and professional background
I hold a Diploma with distinction (Dip.Hyp.dist) with Chrysalis, one of the UK’s largest therapy and counselling trainers. The Diploma route includes accreditation and recognition through professional bodies such as the Royal College of Nursing, the Counselling Society, the Hypnotherapy Society and the General Hypnotherapy Standards Council. I am also a member of the National Hypnotherapy Society.
Counselling work sits alongside hypnotherapy. This includes work with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, grief and longer term patterns that benefit from talking therapy as well as hypnotic work.
How hypnotherapy and counselling fit together
Hypnotherapy
Hypnotherapy focuses on focused attention and guided imagery. Sessions work with habits, fears, physical responses and performance. This suits issues such as phobias, smoking, weight concerns, confidence, performance, IBS, pain and sleep.
Counselling
Counselling offers time to talk through events, relationships and patterns at more depth. This suits longer standing issues such as ongoing anxiety, low mood, loss, relationship difficulties and childhood experiences.
Integrated work
Some people benefit from both. For example, talking through history and relationships, then using hypnotherapy for sleep, panic or confidence. The mix is agreed with you and reviewed as you go.
Session structure and pace
First sessions focus on what you want from the work and how problems show up day to day. You look together at triggers, patterns and what a realistic improvement would look like.
Work then moves at a pace that feels manageable. You agree small steps and review what is changing, what stays stuck and what needs a different approach.
Locations
Hypnotherapy and counselling sessions take place in two settings in Maidstone.
Is this the right service for you
Hypnotherapy and counselling do not fit every situation. If something important sits outside what I offer, you receive clear information and signposting.
If you would like to explore whether this fits your situation, you arrange an initial appointment or a brief phone discussion.
