Your BMI and health

Body Mass Index, or BMI, gives one guide to health risk. It compares your height and weight in a single number.

A BMI between 18 and 25 sits in the “Normal” range. Between 25 and 30 is in the “Overweight” range. Between 30 and 40 is in the “Obese” range. A BMI above 40 sits in the “Morbidly Obese” range.

Higher BMI often links with conditions such as cardiovascular disease, type II diabetes, stroke, some cancers, joint problems such as osteoarthritis and high blood pressure.

BMI is a general guide. It does not replace medical assessment. For personal advice, speak with your GP or another health professional.
